All Grown Up (But Not Really) → Adelaide Fringe
Orchestrating one hour of whimsical, nostalgic fun, is emerging artist Billie-Rose Russell in their debut cabaret ‘All Grown Up (But Not Really). At 11am, The Jade is packed with a room full of adults with teddies on laps, ready to forget our heavy responsibilities for just a short while!
Billie-Rose acts as the vivacious, chaotic host of this early 2000s dreamscape. She bursts in with a bubbly, excitable joy and infectious exuberance, taking us back to a simpler time. Billie-Rose is completely herself and at ease on stage, instantly creating an inviting environment for the audience. The stage is set like her childhood bedroom, so be prepared to be hit with waves of nostalgia as she empties her toy box…!
The message of the show is to not be afraid to embrace your inner child, and Billie-Rose has us all do just that. She authentically shares heartwarming anecdotes from her childhood, from school tuckshops to primary school discos, to having a sensitive attachment to all objects. Each tale evokes many delightful reactions of relatability for the audience. She lets her incredible vocals shine with sing-alongs and clever parodies of 2000s hits that are hilariously relevant to her childhood experience. It truly is a gift to be able to instantly invite all audience members on a journey with you, and Billie-Rose’s construction of the show allows her to do just that. She engages with everyone, and even gets US making new friends with the strangers in the room - it truly was a joy to witness.
Billie-Rose is already a star and a treasure in our pool of local talent. What she has created with this show is a unique, fun-loving escape for those craving a hit of nostalgia. Expect laughs, expect to sing and dance along, and expect to leave with your inner child awoken!
