UP on Purpose: Adelaide's NEW morning Dance Party!

This is UP on Purpose, a new morning dance party here to UPlift and UPgrade your day ahead! At the stunning My Cloud Nine Studio on Gilbert Street, between 8:30-10:30am, is a “comfy clubbing” experience that's 0% alcohol, but 100% vibes! 


With “morning culture” on the rise, and after being inspired by similar events overseas, founder Martine Quigley has created an epic event format where positive mindset and movement meet. From the outset, you are greeted by the wonderful Sunrise Crew with a hot, caffeine-free drink before entering the party realm. The music was already pumping upon arrival, and it was not long until the whole room was up and dancing, comfy clothes and all, all before 9am! 


An integral part of the morning is the 15 minute mindset UPgrade - a moment to check in, settle your thoughts, and self-affirm all that has passed, and what’s to come. Once it wraps, the volume rises, the cushions are swept aside, and the dance party begins. The whole room was instantly alive: bodies moving, faces beaming, and a contagious positive energy pulsed through the space. 


It may cross your mind how absurd it may seem to be full-on “clubbing” at 9am, but from the moment you arrive, you can’t help but surrender to the pure joy of dancing it out with a room full of strangers! You lose track of time, the juice shots arrive, and you forget it’s a Sunday morning! 


It was the little touches that elevated the experience to something truly unique and special. From the beaming, high-energy ‘Sunrise Crew’ who ensured everyone was looked after, to the Glitter Glow-Up Bar, photo booth, bubbles, fans, smoke machine, and affirmations flashing on the screen - I could go on! Add in Matt Gilbertson's top-tier DJ set and it comes together in a fully immersive, funk-filled dance floor escape!


I left feeling energised and utterly joyful! UP on Purpose proves that the best parties don’t need strobe lights or late nights. All you need is sunlight and all round good vibes and you are INSTANTLY UPlifted!!

  For only its second production, Loc’ally Theatr has chosen to confront the weighty, introspective world of iconic playwright Henrik Ibsen in their reinterpretation of When We Dead Awaken. For those unfamiliar, Ibsen’s work is certainly challenging theatrical territory, however the cast delivered a confident and thoughtful performance of this deeply psychological work.  When We Dead Awaken is Ibsen’s final play, a reflective and symbolic piece about artistic ambition, lost love, and the acceptance of death. The story follows sculptor Arnold Rubek, who is vacationing with his young wife Maia. Their strained marriage is disrupted by the sudden reappearance of Irena, Rubek’s former muse, whose intense presence reawakens memories and buried desires. As the two reconnect, they confront what was lost. Future Shocks → Flinders Drama

  From Flinders Drama Centre, the 2025 graduating class of students presented Future Shocks: New Voices On Stage this week, signalling the completion of their Honours Degrees in Performance.  I went into this show completely blind, but with an eager sense of excitement to see what these emerging performers had been called to create.
